outputting 16x9 for 4x3

I have seen this thread in other areas, but can't seem to find a procedure to work for me. Here is a summary. I have some DVCpro50 footage - 16x9 29.97 FPS that I need to output for viewing on a 4x3 TV out of FCP 5.0 HD. Can someone please give me a detailed procedure or a link to one that can help me out, so that my footage can be viewed in the proper aspect ratio and not stretched? I have looked and tried several configurations, but none seem to work. Thanks so much!

Sincerely,

Adrian Correia

I thought FCP 4-5 does this automatically. I could be wrong though. Anytime I throw 16:9 footage on a 4:3 timeline FCP always displays it the way it is suppose to. But I don't know if it treats DVCpro50 footage the same way.

This seems to work for me only after I've killed a chicken and splashed the blood over my CPU three times and jumped around the office naked.

When it doesn't work... I load the clip into the viewer and change the Motion Tab setting for Aspect ratio to either 33 or -33... I forget.

Give that a try.

Wow ... I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who does this ... for a second, I thought I was a crazy ...

That's true. If you want to watch it on a 4:3 external monitor though you need to stick it in a 4:3 sequence -- I do that everytime before I export just to make sure it all looks good.
