Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

Please, can anyone tell me....why can I not see the 16 x 9 look on my TV or computer after I burn it to DVD?
I want want my footage to look like the wide screen version we get when we purchase a video from the store in wide screen.

I am using the DVX100A and posting with Avid Xpress 4.5.1.
When I export footage out of the Avid it is fine (16x9), but when I burn it to DVD it gets streched again. Help, Help and more Help.

Another thing, the only way I can get close to getting the look I want is by resizing my material in the avid then exporting it out. I am hoping that isn't the way it is done properly.. Thanks again.

Sounds like the settings in your DVD authoring software are wrong.

What do you use, how did you export it from Avid, and what do you have the DVD template set to?

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

Actually, that is what I was thinking as well...my DVD software, but I am using only Toast , Sorenson 3 or just regular program inside my G5.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

Also, I have no templates to use in my DVD softwear...atleast not that I learned as of yet.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

I exported it out in a mov. file with the correct aspect ratio...it shows during the play back....just when I go to DVD I have this problem.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

Without knowing the settings you're using in the burning software, it's hard to help.

Is the DVD software capable of creating an anamorphic DVD? If it's just the software which came with the computer, it might not be.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

Only the Sorenson allows the aspect ration to be changed. I have done that and still got the same results. I will go try again.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

I'm not worried about the Sorenson. Does your DVD authoring software have an option for “widescreen” or “anamorphic” DVDs? If not, it doesn’t matter how you render it – you won’t get the result you want.

But now that I’m looking at what you’re saying here, I begin to wonder if there’s a different problem at work here.

Am I understanding you correctly that when you play the DVD, the picture is stretched up and down on your TV?

The problem, then, may be your DVD player not being set correctly. If you have your DVD player set for “widescreen” and you’re playing it on a normal 4:3 TV, it WILL be stretched. You want to have the DVD player set to “letterbox.”

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

Yes my DVD player is set properly for widescreen ( I did check that as well), the picture is streched when playing back...what I am thinking is if I had a HD Television it would show ....tell me what are you thoughts.
Also, I have DVD studio pro 2 but haven't learnt it yet, I was told that program allows the 16x9 burn to DVD. I haven't gotten to it yet. If you anything about that program could you give me some advice on it as well. Thanks very much.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

DVD Studio Pro has a setting for 16:9.
iDVD does not... until iDVD 5 is released on the 22nd.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

ok that is my bag....I thought that my DVD Player had to be set on widescreen. I am going to change it to letter box. I don't understand that....isn't letter box cutting off some of my footage? Anyway, I will let you know the results. I am still looking into my DVD Studio Pro, that is final choice if that doesn't work I guess I would have to stick with the 4x3 aspect ration letter box.

Re: Outputing Squeeze footage to DVD????

Setting it "letterbox" does not cut anything off. It displays widescreen material correctly on a non-widescreen TV.
