Hi All,
In doing productions for broadcast (Commercials, local TV), how do you format the output? Is everything DVD these days? Do you all have your own Betacam decks? If your customer needs a tape, do you have it duped from DVD?
Trying not to have to buy a BVW-75,
Mike
Not a good idea to go to DVD because you have to compress the video. (Unless you just burn an avi file to the DVD). If you need a beta SP tape, you can just go to a local duplication house, and they can make a copy from your mini DV tape or from your hard drive. It costs about $35 here for a half hour program. Or if you know people at a TV station, they might let you borrow their equipment for free. Many stations don't have a mini DV player, though.
For broadcast I make usually DV file (.avi or .mov) and upload to their server...20sec (70MB file) commercial is not too big for that.
If bigger files (longer productions) then I record to CD or DVD and send it to them...but always with DV codec, not DVD-s "native" MPEG2.
DVD disc allows up to 20 minutes DV .avi or .mov so disc's capacity is not problem for me.
If customer needs tape...i'll give miniDV. Hard to imagine that broadcast studio can't dub miniDV --> Beta. Depends of course...
