Output problem, jagged lines around edges....

Hey Guys,

Question for you. I'm having a terrible time outputing to dvd with this project. I output to a quicktime file using quicktime conversion. (its what my client wants). And no matter what I do, I end up with these jagged lines everywhere. People say in other posts that that is the nature of watching on a computer monitor and it will be fine on a DVD player, but alas its still terrible on my DVD player!

Does anyone have any suggestions? The photo on the left is a screen grab of the pure quicktime file exported using DVCpro50 encoder. (I've even tried using interlaced and progressive encoding) all at 29.97 frame rate. (my footage was shot on 24p, edited at 29.97). I've even tried exporting at 30fps. Still bad all around.

The frame on the right is how it looks on my computer monitor and the same with a standard DVD player and 46inch TV.

Thanks you guys!

David

I can't view the images at a proper size. I only see the thumbnails. If I try and view them the board just makes me log in over and over and over, even though I'm already logged in.

From your description though, why not use Compressor? It'll do a better job scanning the footage for starters. You could even just do a test of that one scene that you've made thumbnails of (saving time over doing the whole thing). See if that helps you at all.

The other thing I would recommend is start trying it on different DVD players. Use some better quality ones (Sony, Samsung, Denon, etc.). See how it looks played back on one of those. Cheaper DVD-mid range DVD players don't always play nice with DVD-Rs. Regardless of what their specs say, sometimes they don't play them back as good as you might hope (probably why some festivals still demand VHS, at least they know it will play). Good luck.

cheers.
