Output NTSC DVD with PAL equipment

Hey,

I'm in the UK and I need to make an NTSC DVD for delivery to the USA.

My Premiere project is PAL. Will it be enough to select NTSC in the MPEG compression settings, and then choose NTSC in Adobe Encore when authoring the DVD, or am I missing something?

Thanks for your help,

Will

Premiere Pro CS3 + could do PAL to NTSC conversions, but they looked rather UGLY. If you aren't happy with the results, you'll want to find a post house that has a high quality NTSC to PAL converter for your footage. It use to be pretty costly in the past, I havn't checked rates recently.

If you Shot 25P, you might be able to interpret the video track as 23.976, and then stretch your audio in an audio editing software that has a high quality stretch, and create an NTSC conversion that way. It changes the playback rate of the footage, but it tends to give the highest quality conversion without any nasty frame blending.

I'm not sure on the hardware compatibility of this, but since your output format is a DVD, you might be able to get away with a little something called DGPulldown. If you have 25p footage, you can do this - it will flag your 25p stream to soft-interlace to 29.97fps on the DVD player's end. Keep in mind your resolution must be NTSC dimensions, however
