This is probably a dumb question, but wanted to find out first. I was going to order a light with a maximum output rating of 500w. What's going to happen if I put a bulb higher than 500w in there? Fire? Blown fuse? Blown bulb?
It might work well for a while, or even for longer - but the heat inside the fixture will be higher than what the manufacturer says is okay. The housing or parts of the lamp might melt, the bulb might blow after a few minutes. You don't know unless you try, but I wouldn't try more than 650W, if at all.
