Output compression

Like many of you I use Premiere Pro, After Effects and Encore DVD...so, I often need to export videos from After effects to bring them in Premiere or the other way around. I export my videos in ''microsoft DV AVI'' thinking that I would not loose some quality but I am always a little disapointed by the results.

Today I tried exporting it in the .mov(quicktime) format with the ''animation'' set-up. The file ended up to be 320mo instead of 60mo for microsoft DV AVI.

I thought that exporting with microsoft DV AVI you would never loose quality...was I wrong or what...

Should I always use the Quicktime format (animation setting) to export my videos until I'm ready to put on DVD using mpeg2, or should I use another exporting setting???

Thanks!

Anything that outputs dv footage that takes up less than 3.6 megabytes per second of hard drive space is compressing it in some way. It takes a lot of hard drive space but its always going to give you a better result if your footage stays uncompressed until it gets converted into its final form for viewing. But if your shooting some form of HD footage that is another hassle all together, unless you have servers of storage space your going to have to compress it in some form in order to make it manageable, but even then your looking at about 11-20 megabytes a second in order to get something that won't do too much noticeable damage to your source footage for most applications.
