Outdoor Lighting the DIY way

Hey everyone,
I'm about to embark on my first short film and since I'm young and don't have a job this budget for the film truly is shoe string. I am looking for things I can buy that are relatively cheap that I can use as a reflector. Someone suggested using white cloth and 4x4 foam core which I can purchase at a local craft store. Are there any other items that can help me out? Also, if anyone can give me tips on just lighting outdoors in general.

I'm shooting in a forest where there are a lot of hot spots and places that are very dark. The contrast ratio is horrible. I am also shooting an open field.

if u go onto amazon they have reflectors and stands , I found them for about $50 bucks each , I'm not saying thats shoe string price but that was the cheapest I could find and it is a great find , any reflective material is going to cost you at least $20 dollars at a home depot or something ... so if you do this it will last you for a long time and the the reflectors are gold and silver for better reflecting.

if you don't want to do it then home depot carries a reflective board that works pretty good for a cheap price you can try there... good luck to you!

Google "diy reflectors" and you will find a number of solutions costing between $5 and $20. I am sure there are also threads on this topic in the DIY forum here on DVXUser.

Try to block well within the hotspots of light. Keeping the actors out of the burning spots will save you a lot of trouble and headache.
