Outdoor all weather lighting...

A friend of mine needs to put together a set up which will include a backdrop and some stationary lights that would be used to light the backdrop. These lights would have to be available year round and must withold the cold temperatures as well as rain and hot temperatures. Does any lights come to mind? I told her to go to Home Depot and see what they have.

She wants to have something built so that local TV reporters could use to do their live shots or stand ups. The photog would be responsible for lighting the talent with their own equipment. She does need help on selecting an all weather type light that you can just keep outside all year long and must be bright enough to accurately light the whole backdrop. I told her the backdrop should only be about 7 feet tall by 6 or 7 feet wide.

Any thoughts...?

Well, those worklights are made to be weatherproof...that's partly why they get so damn hot. Or maybe use the kind they have on billboards. I've never seen one up close, but they must be made to withstand extremes of weather.

I've no idea if any "real" lights are weatherproof.

Sure. Basic outdoor floods are waterproof, if installed correctly. Tons of options at home depot. Just tell her to buy all one type, or make sure colors match. Basic tungsten probably best bet if camera people bringing more lights with them.

Worklights sound like a good option but for your own safety and so you do not get sued, if this is a set up left there all year round, make sure this setup is done by a licensed electrician. One death and you could go to jail or owe lots of money for a long time.

Or guys being punished because their beds weren't made properly.

Oh, excuse me...it's not punishment anymore. It's "additional training".
