Outbid - rant

The band in question where featured on another shoot I did so management knew full well my capability.

This thread has become mute in the last hour as management called me again and have advised that they will use me for my quoted price. Have to love when that happens.

A big congratulations on getting the gig! Frankly a 50% under bid sounds absurd. They could have been shopping you to see if you would throw back a much cheaper bid. Sounds like holding the line payed off.

Thank you sir! Most heartily accepted.

Absolutely sir, and when they came back the second time and asked me my best price I gave it. It was the day following this - yesterday that they called me to say they were going with XYZ if I couldnt match.

Then today the change of heart.
Seems like the proper cycle: Offer - counter offer etc.

Were you in panic because they came back with the ol' 1/2 price threat?

You see, you had nothing to worry about. You resisted that tinge of temptation to make a big concession and it paid off in both the near-term and for the future of this relationship.

Congratulations!

Not really as once they said the price I pretty much resigned that it wasnt the job for me. I wasnt very happy about the whole thing. Mostly totally confused at the price the others had given them.

Alls well that ends well but thanks for the ongoing encouragement at that time Stephen, Erik and Kevin.

Just for a FLIPSIDE...I once lost a bid for two HD INTERNET videos...5-10 min each...to a company that OVERBID us by $300,000. That's right, they went over our bid by $300k. The Ad agency felt that there was something wrong if we bid that little...plus the director knew the other post house so they went with them.

BLEW OUR MINDS! Couldn't believe it. What makes it worse? THEY WENT OVER BUDGET!

Still trying to figure that one out. $300k is more than the ENTIRE budget I have for History Channel shows in HD...2 hour HD shows. So...I just don't get it.

well thats common, i was gonna Dp a Spot for MAtch.com, and the director i was working with was propsing a 10K budget for a 1 minute Video against a white Cyc. nothign too big.

They dropped us and went with a company that was closer to where the "talent lived" and their proposal was 25K. They went 105K over budget. Now the same ad adjency is back to us for the next project..... Where we're budgeting for 25K this time... lol.
