Out of Sync QT Conversion

In my sequence my music video is in sync, then I make a quicktime conversion and now it's not in sync. Anyone know how to fix this? :badputer: :badputer: :badputer:

Need more info.

What is your source codec? What codec are you using for export? What kind of Mac are you on? What version of FCP and QT are you using? Is the whole export out of sync or does it drift out of sync or does it sudden become out of sync? Is it a little out of sync or a lot out of sync?

The sync problem is like a delay, a lag in picture behind the audio of about a half a second. I'm not sure what the source codec is, (I've heard the term but don't know what it means) Do you know what setting in QT conversion the sound should be on so it is in sync with the picture? My mac is not the skinny new one, but the one right before it and runs fast, so I don't thin that is the problem. Using FCP Studio 5 with the latest updates.

The source codec is what format the original footage DV, HDV (1080 or 720), DVCPro HD, etc.,. What settings did you use to export the QT movie?

I used H.264 QT conversion , and sound setting AAC 44.1 and 48 neither fixed the problem. I finally had to move the whole audio -10 to the right to get it synced. This synced the audio that was related to the clip but the areas I had foley crash sounds were now off sync. What does all of this mean, I don't know but it is very weird. :kali:

Have you tried exporting in another codec (such as Sorenson 3) to see if you get the same problems? You also might trying repairing permissions and trashing your FCP preferences.

Footage captured was 1080p24 on Canon A1.

Sorry, but I'm not sure I know what Sorenson 3 is. I also don't know how to repair permissions or trash FCP prefernces. I thought that once you import the footage that the FCP prefences were permanantly linked to your footage.

If I make a QT conversion, under the sound setting what should I be using? AAC, or the other format options? and 44.1mhz or 48mhz, or other options? I have tried these and it did not fix the problem. :zombie_smiley: Thanks for the input thus far.

Sorenson 3 is just a different video codec. If you google "repair permissions" and "trash FCP preferences" you'll find instruction on how to do both. Corrupt permissions and/or prefs can cause all sorts of random problems so whenever something oddball pops up this is a good first troubleshooting step. The settings you pick for sound shouldn't make anything go out of sync. The source of the problem resides elsewhere.
