Our wireless future is in question

The systems will work, they will just be illegal to use and stand a better than average chance of incurring interference with local HD broadcasts.

A lot of used wireless systems in block 27, 28, and 29 are for sale on ebay. It looks like a lot of people are dumping them.

Actually the 29 block is quite prized now.

The 29 blk has a large portion reserved for emergency service that except in hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorist attacks, etc are free. Technically it is illegal to use these frequencies but unless you are somewhere where they actually monitor & police these things (like the Olympics or major political conventions) it is all good (not legal advice).

I ordered several last year for a production and I usually sell these these as extra rental units at the end of the production but 29 is now such a prized blk that I am holding onto several extra Lectro 29s that are simply collecting dust because I won't ever be able to replace them.

If you see a 29 blk i would suggest snagging it up (Gotham has one but I can't "store" anymore). Avoid 28 like the plague and 27 might be disastrous depending on your location (probably better to be safe and avoid anyways).

Cheers

The 700 MHz block was (still is??? I don't keep up on the status of these things...) up for auction, and as such, who knows what could be in that range once the dust settles on the auction, although I think cell services are one such contender.

As for the 512-698 MHz range, white space devices aside, that spectrum in urban areas may just get crowded anyway, because of the reduction of the number of available channels for 'traditional' TV broadcasters, if of course, over the air continues to be a viable medium for broadcast...
