Our new website

It looks really good. Very solid. Professional without being cheesy. I see the HVX in the shot. Am I the only one left hanging on to my DVXs? ha!

i like the flash. here are the things i would change...
1. make the loading bar thinner.
2. remove the rotating circle.
3. lighten it up a bit. the gray is kind of drab.

overall though it's fairly well done and better than what i'm capable of doing.

Really? I thought the loading bar, the circle and the gray was great. Different strokes for different folks I guess...

Thanks for the kind words rlm7189.

If you look closer the camera behind the HVX is a DVX. :)

Thanks for the comments ugafan! I'll definately take them into consideration. I'm starting to think the same thing about all the gray. Although I can argue that the gray gives it the professional feel...maybe just a little bit more color.

okay, i removed the rickrolled thing and put up a template i'm working on. it's in its early stages, but you get the idea...

A few suggestions:

- Delete the default Bluehost favicon.ico from your main directory. It's best to have either your own favicon or nothing at all.

- It took a longtime to load and the pay-off wasn't that great (a spinning circle?). Fiddle with the compression or animation settings. There's something you're doing wrong if that little animation took that long to load.

- The "Loading" bar just kept repeating and repeating. If you're going to make people wait, figure out how to provide a countdown so they know how much longer it will be.

- I highly suggest NOT using flash for your entire website. Search engine crawlers can not crawl Flash animations so therefore none of your sites content will be indexed (searchable) by Google, Yahoo, or any of the other sites that help people find you. You can use Flash as decoration (header, menus, etc.) but don't make an entire site out of it.

That's it. Good luck!

What's up with the random swamp footage?

I like the layout, but does that have any meaning?

updated again. the swamp footage doesn't have any meaning, just something i shot a few months back. i'll put the good stuff up sometime after i'm done making the site.

anyways, i don't want to jack goldenboy05's thread so i'll start a new one later.

You need to make the background for the flash movie to be the same grey color as the background for the flash "movie." You can do that with the html code. The text at the bottom is blurry too. Make sure that you have it on even pixels and not positioned on a subpixel. (eg x = 100, y = 100 and not x = 100.7, y = 100.3).

Your preloader circle isn't round. It's oblong. Not sure if that's what you intended, but I think it should be in a perfect circle.

Other than that, it looks pretty good. :)

Thanks PK!, all your points are well taken. I'm currently working on the percentage preloader that shows the progress of the loading function to give the visitor that sense of progress. I also agree that using flash will have it's downside when it comes to search engine crawlers but flash to me is more eye candy then the average html, java, or php site. I guess that'll be something I'll have to think over.

For the favicon, I'll get rid of that asap! lol

I tried going with the same grey for the bg but it was to grey for my taste. I felt that the black gave the grey site setting a better contrast.

With the text I agree, it's pretty blurry! Thanks for pointing that out.

For the preloader circle, I did resize it a little from it's original size so that might be the cause of it looking a bit off.

Thanks for the great comments tommyinla!

It's actually a dry lake still. Our CO is in the high desert so I felt the dry lake would be appropriate for a bg image.

Thanks for the comment!
