Hey guys well I've got my HVX up and running, and had to dust off the MAC G4..

I've been hearing an odd click and beep, from the insdie the tower from time to time, actaully is happen quite frequently ever 5 minutes or so.. which sound like a hard disk is shutting down and starting up. It also tends to coinside with small system delay.. No errors are ever displayed.

Is there a system log, that might give me some info?
Or any other way to figure out what' going on before I hit a catastrophy?

I've looked at the Disk Utility, but it doesn't seem to have any relavent test or info..

THanks.

Joe

Open Disk Utility, you get a lists of hard drives look especially for the system disk. It's actually two disks in the list; The disk, and the formatet version of the disk that the system uses. - Click the right one to condone tests. - You select it and click "repair permissions"

Second, I would download Onyx, and run a few maintence scripts, delete old logfiles etc.

third: You said you had to dust it off, telling me you don't use the machine too much. If that is the case, the best solution (above any other) is reformat and reinstall the OS, pref; OS X Tiger.

Cheers

Ok.. I repaired disk permissions.. Found One Error. I am actually suspect of the 2nd hard drive in the system, not the main system disk. Ironically since I've posted this I have heard the click once..

I will check out onyx. Where on the sytem are the log files? I would think if the drive was shutting down and respinning there would be a log of that somewhere??

I was being a bit sarcastic with the dust off. I'm just much more a PC guy, so the mac litterally gets powered up once every few months.. It was clean. :)

THanks.

Joe
