im at a point in my career where i'm happy to buy whatever i need. but i have no interest in toys or fashion gadgets. my rule for any new piece of gear is that it has to pay for itself or improve my quality of life.

so im looking for input on ipads or equivalent tablety-type things.
anybody find a game-changing use for one?

im down for some pinball between takes and all. but im looking for a real workflow enhancer!

Honestly its really great for reading scripts.

DSLR remote is good as well, but you can use and ipod/iphone for that.

Coming soon; audio mixer control surface

Already happening; monitoring via wifi, though the transmitter and receiver are nearly $2000

i was going to use an ipad for notes and storyboarding via a stylus. found out the original one was too slow to effectively capture strokes. and fear the 2 may also be (especially with the clunky state of stylii)

i was looking at the asus ep121 as a bit more stylus-centric too...

I use 2 on set for teleprompters, DSLR slate, scripts, etc. Honestly other than the teleprompter its not really a game changer for me.

Honestly its really great for reading scripts.

that is what my kindle gets used for... that and keeping contracts on hand for quick reference on set.

Frankly, I really want an iPad, but cannot justify one untill it has atleast an SD card reader and a USB port or 2x USB ports, and can play MTS files (a VLC app is fine), so I can use it to offload and show dailies to clients on set... Untill then, frankly my kindle does everything else minus video for $300 less. If I want to get work done or watch a movie I will bust out the laptop, for the little BS, the kindle does everything for me...

Now, like I said, if they made it so I can use an ipad to offload and play footage, I will be lining up at the apple store to buy one tomorrow...

hmmm, I'd use it as a paper weight to hold down a pile of scrips...maybe use it as a light so i could see my camera controls. I might even charge my phone with it's usb port. It'd probably work as a great shim for that one tripod leg that's to short.

Lol jk, i'm sure the mac lovers hate me now. But in all reality, aside form maybe being a teleprompter I dont think it has much use on the set. As for audio video its not powerful enough to do much. Then again i've become impatient with low power devices since i got my new i7 laptop.

My 7th grade students learned how to edit with ReelDirector on their ipad1's. This was a very good way to get them started, they are flourishing with these tools. I just want apple to make it useable as an easy field mon (.) alas

I use the DSLR Slate app all of the time.

I also have ones that show you where the sun will rise and set based on your location, and an app that is a talent release form.
