Hi all,

Hope someone out there can help in a dire situation.

I'm sitting here with an FCP machine that stalls just before my login window should appear.

I recently ran a permissions repair, but had to abort midway. I was prompted to not stop, and that stopping could harm my disc, but stopping was the only option given.

Has anyone any experience fixing the Mac OS using Target Disk mode? I have access to everything on my hard drive via FireWire (includes the P2 volume not yet backed up to external disk). Disc Utility fails in repairing the disk, claiming a problem with ColorSync.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

My FCP machine:

PowerBook G4 15" 1.25GHz
1.25 GB RAM
SuperDrive
FCP HD 4.5
FCP 5.0
Photoshop CS1
Panasonic P2 driver

You should get your hands on Disk Warrior from Alsoft ASAP and boot the powebook into Target Disk Mode. Then run Disk Warrior from another (non Intel!) Mac, connect your powebook through firewire and let DiskWarrior work its magic.

Apple can help via live chat for free, theyll walk you through the proper repair for this problem.

Thanks for the good words guys.

I´ll try Disk Warrior.

Does anyone know if theres a downloadable version on their site? Looks like it can only be sent as a CD.

---- Ah, just found the download. THANKS.

Just got done with Disk Warrior 3.0.x

The same version that caused damage to my Tiger install, but it worked well in this instance with Mac OS 10.3.9

I ended up doing an Archive and Install, which kept my FCP apps in the right place, so I didn't have to reinstall them. RAD.

thanks,
a
