I know this is the FCP thread, but there are a lot of DIY folks here that I'm hoping might have insight into the problem. Also its purely related to getting material for FCP and sending out exported stuff from FCP, so I figure close enough.
We all know Connect to Server abilities right? I'm cool with that. So I figure, hey if I make a full permissions (read/write) login for a folder on the FTP server, I can then give that out to folks to upload files (sfx, music, gfx). I was then hoping that someone could just stick the syntax into the Connect to Server window and voila said and done. But deal is, if they do that, the FTP share point mounted to their destkop is read only. All I could find from Apple is this:
Mac OS X 10.2 or Later: Cannont Copy to FTP Servers in the Finder
I have to say that was upsetting because Windows can using its Windows Explorer address bar (not IE though). And the paper gives no reason as to why Apple won't allow this. Its not a complicated FTP command, and actually can be done via the terminal from other articles I've seen. So why the Finder gets handcuffed is beyond me.
Anyway, so I was wondering if anyone know of any applications that could be run in the background and like "hi-jack" the Mac OS X FTP communication and then allow the mounted share point to be Read/Write (cause it is read/write as far as the actual server is concerned, only OS X is preventing that, and all third-party FTP applications work fine). I just want to make it as easy as possible for clients, so don't want to have to tell them to get an FTP client and use that (which I likely will, but am hoping someone might have another solution).
Cheers.
