Oscars for indies

David Ansen of Newsweek recently wrote that he feels some of the most Oscar-worthy acting is in indie films. He says "I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of the nominations this year came from the indie world". Indie films he notes with actors worthy of nomination include: "The Squid and the Whale", "Capote", and "Forty Shades of Blue". He likes "Duma" for other reasons than acting.

Too bad. :(

It'll make the biggies start throwing money at the indies.

It's not so much the money, as it is the strings attached to that money.

David Ansen is an ass-money trying to be hip and aloof.

Altough I cannot discount performances from the *so-called* indiependents (Doesn't IFC have an annual awards cermony?)

the acting usually on display at the studio level is on par and not to be discounted.

And what is an indeipendent? Capote has United Artists as one of the Prod Co's, it stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Cooper (established Hollywood talent)

Indiependent? Please.

And are we gonna say that the talent and performances in these films are not as good?
