Organizational tips

I have only cut 5 minute films. I am attempting to cut something signifigantly longer. I can see that this is going to get crazy quickly no matter how detailed I am in labeling clips. I feel that there should be a new folder option in the bin so you could put all of tape A in a folder and all of tape B in a seperate folder so on and so forth. Can someone give me there personal tricks at staying organized. I have about ten tapes

You can make separate bins in the browser (apple-B) to organize however you want.
I don't know if I can explain this correctly, but when you make all the different bins that you want you can open one, grab it by the tab and drag it into another bin so you end up with one browser window with different tabs at the top to navigate between the bins. Does that make sense?
Somewhere a long time ago I think I saw this idea in a tutorial that explains it a lot better. I'll see if I can find it.

The DVD CaptainMench linked to is very good. I have it and highly recommend it. And as Alasken said, you can put a bin inside a bin (although I think FCP doesn't like it if you have more than 5 or 6 "layers" of bins).

As far as organizing goes, are you doing fiction or non-fiction?

-A

Then it is great for that as well, as I am primarily a documentary editor, and do focus on that organization. I also include a couple sample projects so you can see for yourself how things are organized.
