Organization Help...

This has just gotten way out of hand...

Here's my situation:

I have probably 3 or 4 'Final Cut Pro Documents' folders in different places on different hard drives on my computer. Some contain thousands of clips in different Capture Scratch folders, all labeled 'Untitled001', 'Untitled002', etc.
So, I'm pretty sure I have multiple clips with that are titled the same within different folders.

I need to move all these files into a single 'FCP Documents' folder on one hard drive.

I know if I try anything without knowing what I'm doing, I'll mess everything up worse than it already is.

What's the best way to go about doing this?

Thanks,
Trent

How many projects are you working with? You can use the media manager to keep everything together properly as well as make the projects more compact.

I have a tutorial DVD that covers how you should organize yourself in FCP. Not sure it will help with the current situation, all the UNTITLED clips and all. But I am sure if you keep them separated by PROJECT NAME...the folder inside the VIDEO CAPTURES folder, you should be fine.

Next time, don't CAPTURE NOW until you name the clip. At least the tape name, and then 01, 02, 03.

The DVD can be found at www.LFHD.net. Link on the upper right. I think you'll find it well worth it.

Thanks

Thanks

There's one big project, and a couple uninportant small projects. When I've had multiple projects open at the same time as the main one, footage captured for the main project's been placed in Capture Scratch folders for other projects.

This is probably something really simple, but I've never been able to title clips before I capture them with Capture Now. The title box is greyed out to where you can't click in it. It's one of those things where when I got FCP years ago, I just said, "Hm, whatever... I'll just figure it out later."

That DVD sounds like precisely what I need.

I really appreciate the help.
