does anyone know of a video supplies dealer around the Portland area?

i'm going down there next week and i'd like to pick some gear up (tax free!).

please let me know if you have a phone number or website address.

thank you! :)

Hey, try www.provideoandtape.com, they have alot of pro video gear. They are in Tigard though, a little ways from Portland. They have a pretty good showroom. That's where I picked up my DVX. If you're looking for other camera related things, pro photo supply is the way to go. They are in NW Portland, around 18th and Northrup. Their website is www.prophotosupply.com They have a kickass used gear section too, sometimes you can find some real gems. Check it out. I live in town here, so if you need anything just drop me a PM!

What specifically are you looking for? There isn't a great one stop shop, but there are lots of smaller stores that have good gear. If you tell us what you need, we can direct you more exactly.

thanks guys,

i'm looking to buy a field monitor, a crane and a glidecam 4000 (among other things). so i am kinda looking for a one-stop, evs style shop (if there is one).

pdx - about how far out of the city is Pro Video And Tape? maybe its worth trekking the extra distance. thanks again for your help!

Pro Video & Tape would be a 20+ minute drive, if traffic wasn't bad. Weekends should be okay, though I don't know if they're open during the weekends.

While they're probably the closest thing to EVS that I can think of, I'm not a huge fan of them myself. Litterally DAYS after I purchased my DVX100a through them, I discovered EVS (through DVXuser) and saw I could have saved $200+, even after shipping. I've since learned that the guy I was dealing with didn't know a whole lot either ... lots of guesses & having to ask other workers what they thought.

Super Digital (superdigital.com) is located in Portland, though I DOUBT they have all that you need ... but they do have quite a bit, especially for the audio stuff you may need in the field. I'm going to be going there tomorrow to check out boom poles, and see what else they have on hand.

well if you think it'll still save me cash (and headache by avoiding idiot salesmen) by going with EVS, i would much rather give them my business. EVS has been more than accommodating for all my video needs, and the one time i went to their storefront they were extremely helpful (thanks tommy!). i truly hate shopping elsewhere.

i just figured since i'd be in the area, and of course, the whole, being tight on money issue :)

maybe i'll call Pro Video & Tape up and price-out their monitors.

damn. i wish i wasn't such a fickle consumer!

Yea, the only reason I bought my DVX from them was because it was a B-stock camera, so I got it for several hundred dollars cheaper than I would have anywhere else. The truth is, I bet EVS will beat just about any price that Pro Video will have. Super digital *is* really great for audio stuff, but they don't have anything in the way of video. What part of Portland are you going to be in?

I was really hoping to make it to Super Digital today (need a boom pole badly), but it'll have to wait 'till Monday.

SplitVision, you can price out Pro Video & Tape's monitors, but I can guarantee EVS would beat them. When I spoke to Pro Vidoo & Tape, they let me know up front they don't even try to compete with online dealers for pricing ... apparently they just can't do it (whatever). The thing about EVS is they're not just an online dealer ... they've got the store front AND knowledgable staff to test everything out, etc. Too bad they're clear down in SoCal.

If you're just looking to rent while down in the area, there are probably closer places in Portland ... you'll just have to do a Yahoo yellow pages search, or Google. Sorry I can't help you more.
