Ordering from shoot35 = Hidden Taxes?

I am planning on purchasing a Cinebox and other bits from Shoot35 and am wondering if there are additional taxes when ordering from the UK.

I am located in California.

In CA you do owe use tax on any purchases, the same amount as your local CA sales tax. Not sure how CA collects this, most likely on your state taxes.

In addition almost all credit card companies have added a foreign transaction fee. Most of them (Citibank and Wells Fargo I'm sure about) are 3%. This fee applies even if the company charges you in US dollars, if they aren't using a US based merchant account. An additional currency conversion fee will also be applied if they charge you in another currency

Thanks for the reply, msorrels.

Anyone out there that has recently purchased a follow focus or any other gear that can give a specific account, so to speak?

I got my FF from shoot35 last month. No sales tax (NYC) charge on the item when check out. HSBC charge me a currency fee.
FF + shipping total US$ $745.30.
FOREIGN TRANSACTION FEE INTEREST CHARGE US$22.21.

Hope that help.

Dvx . . . That's really funny . . . I was trying to be funny too . . . as in how COULD we have bailed them out when we are broke . . . different bailout in mind . . . the shell game bailout going on right now. . . I'm just not funny.

I've been ordering stuff from them for the past 4 or 5 years and for the first time back in August, UPS charged an additional $22.07USD for a "broker fee."

They need a US dealer.

Hi Chris,

What gear have you ordered and how do you like it?

This would be my first time dealing with shoot35.

I still have and have used quite a bit, their old SGpro r3 lens adapter and other minor various pieces of DSLR mounting gear as well as a lot of their iris rods. One thing I've noticed about their threaded iris rods is, the machining can be off on some so they don't mate together precisely. I had an issue sliding a rod mounted accessory past the union until I filed the heck out of the mating ends. I really like their stuff and that new mattebox looks like the cat's ass.

Indeed but keep in mind the importing party will be subject to the same fees that an individual will be (although likely a bit less due to volume purchasing, shipping etc.) This means the dealers price will have to be higher to account for the fees, so you will likely end up paying just as much. There just wouldn't be the uncertainty about what fees and how much.

...But don't complain about a $22 fee on a purchase of over $700. Some countries have astronomical import taxes. In Brazil its 100%!

Thanks for the feedback Chris.

$20-$30 I can handle . . . +$100 and things change.

It is hard to say without having the item in hand, but it looks like a good value and very nice tool.

My correspondence with Wayne has instilled confidence in their customer service.

We shall see . . . soon I hope.
