ordering from evs

Re: ordering from evs

Yes, DVXUser's do get a discount, but you need to call them so they can catch the order. Not all B&H prices are cheaper, you need to compare. I noticed a few things are equivalent or cheaper at B&H, but not everything. There are still a lot of good deals at EVS.

Re: ordering from evs

for CA people ordering from EVS:

If you are ordering from CA and use the equipment in production and you have a legit business ( tax-wise) , you can PROBABLY qualify for a the production tax rate. CHECK WITH THE BOE. board of equalization.  I am in the process of getting that set up with evs.  You pay should pay 3.25% sales tax instead of 8.25. It is a small pain in the butt to fill out and fax back the form, but well worth it if you like UPS Standard, 2 days, anywhere in CA from EVS.  Any CA business should be willing to set that up for you, if not, go elsewhere.  You can probably request they do that for you retroactively, if you have forgotten to set that up also..I'm sure not that far back, but maybe on the last thing you ordered.

With that and their personable service, BH doesn't seem such an attractive option.. ( they are nice too, but they're east coasters...:)  no offense, just like the CA boys, ya know?  )

Re: ordering from evs

To Defend B&H, unless you have actually ever been in the store or met the guys who run the store, you may not understand the way they act on the phone. They are not typical New Yorkers, they just have to deal with them. I have been in the store and have met them at trade shows and they are very knowledgeable and friendly to me.

When I was researching editing software, I went to the store and the guy spent two hours with me.

The store, if you have never been there, is a circus and they give most of their attention to the people there. Sometimes they come off curt on the phone, mainly because there is probably someone standing in front of them waiting. It is very busy store, but definitely, as I call it the Holy Land.

I went to B&H last summer-- it's a supremely nice (and clean) store, although like all of New York, it's insanely busy.

My wife, however, just didn't understand my need to get out to B&H while we were visiting the city... :(

Re: ordering from evs

I'll be out there in February to see my Dad (It's actually my home town) Where are they located?

Re: ordering from evs

B&H is at
420 Ninth Ave., NY,NY 10001
About a two block walk from Penn Station.

Re: ordering from evs

Excellent. That's not far from 48th street. I used to go up there all the time and drool in all the music stores. I met John Entwhistle there at Manny's Music. It's funny, because I used to think that playing music was an expensive habit, then I got into filmmaking.

Re: ordering from evs

TC, love to have you over. We have a slightly cozier showroom tho. ;) I guess that is why we spend more time on the phones... Most of my customers are phone-in, so I spend most of my time with them. Even the folks who live 20 miles away phone in to avoid big city traffic... :)
