Orbit Tool not orbiting....

Hi all.

I am somewhat new to AE. I am trying to orbit a camera around a title plate in AE and having a bit of a problem. I would like the camera to orbit in a 180Degree half circle around the title plate.

I choose a start keyframe position in the timeline. Move my scrubber down the line and then orbit the image with the orbit tool. When I preview the move... AE has taken my camera directly through the title plate not in a smooth motion around it. My POI is the title plate... any idea why AE would take me on a direct line through the title plate when I use the orbit tool instead of on an orbit around it?

Is there an easy way to have a camera circle an object at a particular distance... the POI being the objec from every angle?

Thanks.

the other way u could solve this problem is tick the text 3d grid on, then u can use the camera to orbit in a 180Degree half circle around the title plate.

The problem with this is that AE is going to interpolate the most direct route between the two keyframes. That's why it's "going through", it's linearly interpolating between the two keyframes, which ends up being a straight line. To do this smoothly you would have to adjust the bezier curves of the camera's motion path or parent it as I stated above. Parenting is generally a better idea because it gives you better control and more flexibility.
