Optomizing your system for best results...

There is a lot of talk on here about what settings to use on our DVX100's but after a friend of mine was having some problems with his FCP HD set up and the both us troubleshooted the situation. I began to wonder what is the ultimate way to get the best results in setting up FCP? I want to think I have mine set up to get the best results but I could be wrong. So I wanted to know what settings to have certain options set to and what options to not worry about as much. I am sure a lot of that would be based on the project or person using the system which would be me.

Go over the post here at the top about how to set up FCP for 24p editing. There's also a great tutorial on Ken Stone's FCP site, too.

I already know how to set it up for 24p Editing. There are several ways or options you can select to set up your workstation. I was just wondering what is the best way to get the best results. For example there is an option for MEMORY USAGE and I have 100% (1321MB) selected for application and 10% (117MB) for still cache. Then for the Thumbnail cache, I have DISK - 8192K and RAM 512k. All together I have a gig and a half of RAM. I never read anywhere anything about these settings....what would happen if I put in different figures. For the most part, I have everything else set up the way I want it.

I swear, I have an Final Cut Protlegeist.

Been experiencing the random changing of numbers in FCP's "Memory Usage" option. Yikes!

Okay, but to help out as best I can: have a fast, "FCP Certified" hard disk. I didn't have one starting out, and ended up losing a bunch of realtime capabilities as a result. There are 7200 RPM disks out there. I thought I had a 5400 RPM, but it acted like a 4200 RPM laptop disk.
