Opteka Counterweight Question

Hi all,

I recently bought the Ikan Flyweight DSLR rig and I love it with the exception of the weight bag. It's a great idea but I just haven't been able to find a material heavy enough to fill it with. It also shifts a lot on the rig...

I think a good alternative for me would be to mount the Opteka counterweight brick on my vertical cheeseplate. I like the Opteka CBW-2 counterweight over the CBW-1 because it's about half a pound heavier.

However, the CBW-2 has a rods attachment on top and I haven't been able to figure out if that piece is removable or welded to the counterweight. Sorry, I know it's a noob question but Opteka customer service has been totally unresponsive and I haven't been able to find a definitive answer online....

Does anyone here have any experience with the Opteka CBW-2 counterweight and attaching it to cheeseplates? I'd really appreciate any help!

Thanks.

i have 3 of these weights. the bracket you see in that amazon photo is "removable" from the weight itself. brackets get attached by several big bolts/screws. i have 2 weights piggy backed to each other with one attachment bracket onto the rails. these are a great band for the buck when you just need serious weight.
