im curious whether anyone here is using the cs-3e shotgun by sanken, or the CMIT 5u by schoeps?

im wondering specifically whether it might be worth it to try and find a cs-3e rather than an mkh416 for the 300 odd bucks more it costs. anyone used one? they seem to be popular on features...

and has anyone used the cmit? i hear it knocks the pants off everything else..

all the time , have 2 like that
best side rejection shot gun , not tight pick up pattern as 416 ,more 81
very flat response , no proximity effect , the mic doesnt change the sound characteristics if you move it from 1 feet to 5 .
usually working better then 82 or 816 for hard urban invaiorment.
might work as one mic do it all for interior shots where you dont have anything else or dont have time to change the mics ( skip on what some people will tell you about shotguns inside :-))
sorry didn't find something better for outside job ,and that include the schoeps which doesn't come close ( sounds better inside but loose to sanken for outside work)

ah, thanks oleg. so what you're saying is - this mic rocks...

now i realise why pretty much alll the C.A.S. guys use em as primary mics.

you use this mic, too, right?

aaah, dont be silly, we all know you'll take the cas down if they had a competition. :)\

is $1400 a realistic price on this mic? do you know a good place to buy? thanks george.

i dont suppose this mic turns up very often on the second hand market, right? why would it, i guess. thanks for the help...

never sow one - from time to time you can see cs-3 ( not e ) coming, but the newer model has less self noise and better sound characteristics
the cs3 might be upgrade to the 3e - but thats almost like to buy new one

cool, ok, i cant afford one just yet, but id really like one. one thing ive learnt in the past year: bad gear, bad skill - terrible sound. good gear, bad skill - bad sound. bad gear, good skill - good sound. good gear, good skill - amazing sound.

thanks...

CS3e all day today in an indoor arena... seated, standing interviews... tons of ambient noise... the mic rocks.

(the B6 also rocked today... but I think I may have a CS3e in my future)

i've got mic depression at the moment. brought on by my ass being low budget and all. but i'm fast getting to the conclusion that i really want a cs3e: you cant even rent them here in south africa.
