opinions on poster graphic

Hey guys, I posted this in another thread, but it seems to not be that active, so I'm setting up shop over here.

basically, I have stripped a poster graphic of almost all text, other than the title, for a movie, and am curious to get some gut responses. What kind of movie do you think this is for? What is the topic? The story? Does this work for you? Would you be interested in this if you turned a corner and caught it out of the corner of your eye, etc? Do you like it or does it suck? :)

I will also post a few more graphics later on, once I get some good feedback for this one...

One thing: I know there is no slug line, and there are no performers. While I appreciate comments on how marketing should work, I am not looking for that info right now, rather, just gut emotional reactions to this image.

This is very important to me, and Ttanks in advance! I really appreciate the quality of commentary in these forums!

It's really well done, and there is NO way that was graphically done and if so, goodbye paints and paintbrushes. I second briceman's "thats really creepy.."

I also think it has something to do with the Holocaust.

It was indeed painted... mostly, then scanned in! PS isn't that good... yet!

Thanks for the kind words... any more detailed commentary appreciated. Don't fear offending me. I'm really looking for in depth comments, as this may be used as a main graphic for a film advert. campaign.

As a little addition. There is a tag:

"He lost her to the Holocaust. He found her in a doll."

any comments on that?

i don't know if the blue star stands out for me, or is distracting. Is it possible to change the color of the star or is that a big no-no in the jewish religion? i'm not up on my world religions.

hyrbid. good point, I debated on this, too. The blue star of that style was the regulation star for Jewish people forced into Ghetto's in Poland, specifically... so no, I can't change the color.

On the flip side, it contrasts everything else in the picture, which does make it stand out and almost seem distracting, which may not be a bad thing. Thanks for pointing it out.

I sat and stared at your graphic for quite a while, here's what I thought:

when looking at your graphic, i found myself naturally and continually following the doll's triangular shape to the peak, it's head, much like we do when we look at pyramids. This constantly led me to an empty red space, and I felt moreso disappointed by the lack of information than intrigued by it. I think maybe you could do something more with the red space, even if it's simply adding a patterned background or some kind of graphic to make onlookers feel like there's more going on than just a doll. The painting is beautiful how it is right now and I'd love to see it on canvas, but if you're trying to create and spark interest I think you could make a better investment with that seemingly plain red background.

ill add a little more to chazzzle's statement too.
Perhaps just darken the star just a little more, but still have it blue.

I sort of agree with the red background, but it's varied enough that I still find it interesting. This might be a time where you can add some subliminal message in that background, tell your artist to perhaps paint in some very vague text in teh style of the background. Or something like silhouttes of people Jewish people marching? That could be real creepy.
