these are amoung the best wireless lavs that the dealer I am working with stocks - they are 699 canadian.
I am more then willing to spend more for better quality if available.

I will be shooting outside, away from urban centers for the most part.
Subjects will rarely be more then 20 feet away from the camera.
My goals are good sound, strong signal, and a mic that is not "too directional" so the voice quality doesn't change too much if the person turns thier head away from the mic while talking.

opinions...?

Those should work very well for what you need. I'd get them if I were you.

Re: opinions on EW112P-G2 (wireless Sennheiser)

I used these wireless mics during my doco shoot and had no problems with them. They sound good. (Though I am thinking of upgrading to a Sanken lav mic which is a lot smaller then the mic that comes with the kit.) They are very good on power consumption from the two AA batteries - the transmitter uses more than the receiver.
On the doc I had the director wired with the mic and transmitter. Your 20 foot range should not be a problem. I was able to track her all over the house while I shot in another room.
Plug the receiver into the XLR 2 input which allows a shot-gun on the camera to be used through XLR 1 input. Which is what I did, it is not as good as boom swinging but that way I had two different sound inputs to play with.

I got my EW112P-G2 last week. I have used my k6/me64 to it and it works good.

has anyone here had experience with Audio Technica lavs?

I have an AT shotgun and I like it.

the sennheiser evos look like the joint, but they are more money...
seems like with sound, you get what you pay for, huh?

Schteecie,
The sound quality is good and you can select the sensitivity of the microphone at the transmitter depending on whom you are micing. (Loudly spoken to quieter voices)

There is no noticible change if they move the head while talking, of course if they talk over their shoulder –why would they? Then the sound may change.

The omni lavalier does have a wide sound recording scope, in my doco I was able to record the director talking with the actor on the same mic.

Boomerang,
As for the range I haven’t fully tested but if you are in sight of the camera it should be a few hundred meters (yards). I experienced momentary dropouts when I was filming in a house and the director walked outside into the garden to have a cigarette. The walls would have blocked the radio transmission. But on the whole I am very pleased with the mics performance. And would recommend it. The receiver is attached to the hot shoe of the DVX.

A friend of mine has the Sony radio mic, which looks similar but its all plastic and it looks like Toys R Us it make them and it eats batteries.

I have an AT U101 wireless lav system, as well as a Sennheiser Evolution 100 (which is the precursor to the G2). The AT is great, and has several features the Evolution doesn't have. Then again, the Sennheiser is great, and has several features the AT doesn't have. They're both very nice systems for the money, either makes a fine entry-level pro wireless system (i.e., they're the lowest-priced, lowest-end products I think a pro would likely use). There are much better systems, for more money, but for the $500 price range these two are very nice.
