Opinions on Cinevate Matte Box?

I really like the look of the Red Rock box Brian but I need something today. I ordered a Cinevate today based off of the features, price and Dennis' reputation with the Brevis. They both look to be excellent products.

All the best,

Dan

I also have a matte box coming from Dennis. I ordered the pre-flip package and I can't wait to put it through its paces. Hopefully it will ship to me in time for my music video shoot this weekend!!!

Dan, if you're not getting email back...try the pm system here or at Cinevate. No spam filters etc. to deal with.

Dennis,

Just received your matte box. Thanks for the fast shipping. Very solid piece of equipment.

Thanks S. We actually got our first complaint about shipping being too fast (and you know who you are!). Turns out a gentlemen renting a Brevis unit liked it so much he ordered one...and got it before the rental was to be returned. That's a complaint we like to hear :-)

More pics of the Cinevate mattebox attached to the rest of my rig... Adjusts very quickly for varying lengths of lenses and has several different size foam inserts for different diameter lenses.

Got my kit today!!!! Going to experiment now. I've got to print out the manual and get it together. Thanks for the quick ship Dennis. I'll be posting some feedback and footage soon.

Has anyone ordered the new Hysonfilms mattebox yet?
His equipment looks very well designed, but the site and business doesn´t seem to be constantly taken care of (I believe his father pased away a couple of months ago...?, maybe that´s the reason...)
Anyway, the Cinevate is a sexy beast, the MicroMatte promises to be:thumbsup: - finally alternatives at a reasonable price!

Cinevate looks like a VOCAS knock off at a 1/3 the price. Not sure if it' outsourced from India. I got something that looks exactly the same from India to tide me over until the RRock is in production. Unfortunately, got what I paid for. Nice design (So nice, VOCAS is suiing them) but crap materials (soft metals, badly fitted plastic).

My guess Cinevate is probably a step up or two in materials or you would've heard about by now. Just hope the VOCAs legal team doesn't serve him.

If you can afford a VOCAS, it's machining will make you weep (so will the price).

Most Matte Boxes are the same in principle. At the end of the day it comes down to build quality and function. Formatt is a toy next to Chroziel or Petroff. Cavision is someplace in between. I hope and pray the build on RR's is as good as their FF. We'll see.

What I really like about Cinevate/Vocas design are the internal eyebrows. Nobody else does these and they really save time over having to use paper tape or hard mattes.

Hi Tim:

I received my Cinevate MB today. Have not shot with it yet (my HVX got attacked with grit/dust in the focus and zoom rings, needs rest and recuperation), but on just looking at it, I am impressed. It looks to be fairly solidly built. For $500.00, I don't think it can be beat. Don't forget, the Red Rock is trying to hit the $500.00 without side doors. I am sure that when Red Rock adds the side doors, it will be more in the $600.00 range and it will not have the internal eyebrows (or nobody has mentioned them yet).

I am sure that the Red Rock will be nice, I am thrilled with the quality of my Red Rock FF, it's an outstanding piece of gear. But the Cinevate can be bought today, the Red Rock? Who knows when? It's been 'coming soon' for as long as I have looked at the Red Rock site.

Best,

Dan

Has anyone actually received the new X matte box? If so please, please post pics. I've had mine on order for a long time (hope everything's ok Joel!).

tmnt: The new mattebox isn't out yet. It is called the microMattebox. The microX is their flip adapter. Neither have been released yet. There were some preliminary photos from various expos that RRM has been to. If you compare FreshDV's footage from NAB to the photos on their website, you can see a huge difference in the design. As far as I know, no one has yet to receive the microMattebox or the microX flip adapter except at conferences and the such. Out of curiosity, are you holding out for one?

Ah, sorry mate I was after the HysonFilms X matte box.

The redrock is looking very nice though, I hope one of them is released before too long.

Hi Arno:

I am stll a little fuzzy on what exactly the eyebrows are used for? Is it to get a wider/sort of VistaVision framing or ??? Or are they just a second level of light protection? Can you enlighten me?

Dan
