Hii All!

I'm finally looking into buying a mac to start learning FCS2 and here is one option. What do you guys think of it in terms of performance with FCS2?

How future-proof is this?
What max price is it worth?

Looks like a good machine. Just two questions -

1) is the 200GB HDD 5400rpm or 7200rpm? 7200 is better for video/audio work.
2) is the software legal? I don't think you can count it as added value if they are bootlegs without DVDs and Activation Numbers.

Just my two cents.

yea unless you get the actual cd's or dvd's the software added should not be included in the cost

but performance wise, it should be very good

i run final cut pro on a macbook with no problems

and i would say about half the mac users here are using a macbook pro similar to that one

used: ive seen ones like that for around 1500 (cdn) on craigslist (minus the software)

check to see if they have an apple care warrenty that is still valid, always nice when buying used

i forget the name of the website but theirs a mac one where you type in the specs of the computer and it will return a street value for it (usually a bit high) but a good place to start - maybe google or someone here will help out with the name for it though

Thanks very much guys!

It looks like these are bootlegs.

And how different is this GPU chip compared to the new 9600 gt?

How relevant is it for render times?

I wouldn't buy with the pirated copies of all that software. No tech support and no upgrades. Not too mention the bad karma...

Thanks everyone for your input.

I ended up calling 1-800-myapple and got a 15" MBP, 2.5 ghz, 2 gb, 250gb, ge force 8600gt 512mb with MATTE display - brand new on clearance plus some extra discount because I'm a nice guy for $1599 :)
