Opening up ucr210d

Just bought a couple of mystery block 210d from ebay. One they just had the door/slide shut that shows the block, the other unfortunately had been removed. Just talked to lectrosonics yesterday, they couldn't look up the block from s/n because it hadn't been in for service. They said I could open it up and see the block inside.
Anybody opened one up and is there anything for me to be concerned with. I'm just looking so I'm fairly confident that everything will be fine.

I've had either my old long gone 185 or 195 series receivers open, but never took out the board assembly. But that was a while ago and the 210 is diversity and different. If your not adept at this type of procedure, send it to a Lectro or someone experienced. I would just send it to the mother ship for tuneup/calibration anyway.

Thanks Rick. Hmm, I'd planned on pulling the housing and just taking a look without touching anything, hoping to see the block number. I guess I'll try and scrounge up a couple of different tx in different blocks and maybe get lucky and figure out the rx block. Whether I can figure it out or not a trip to rio rancho might be in their near future.

Is there a colored tip on the antenna?

If so this might help.

Actually it also gives specific lengths for the antennas for each block so that should also tell you.

They just came with a black 30cm (11.8 inches) and one that was 29cm (11.4173 inches) antennae. One does have a small white paint dot on the end of one. I was assuming it was put on by the previous owner. I don't have much in them so if it takes me some time till I can figure them out I'm okay with it. I hope to get some time next week to work on them. Thanks Noize2 and Rick.

Well the lengths are for the 1/4 wave whip antenna, sounds like you have full wave antennas.

So the 11.8 comes out to be 2.95 (with that assumption which would make it a BLOCK 31 (2.99) probably
and the 11.4173 would be 2.854325 which would be BLOCK 33 (2.87)

Both of those antennas would have been "black (with label)"

I'm also assuming that the connector is taking up some of that length so I chose the closest shorter length.

At a minimum this should limit your possibilities to Blocks 30 - 33. all the other antennas would way too short as 1/2 wave and way too long as 1/4 wave.

The color is a plastic cap that is 1/2" or so long on the tip of the whip antenna. But all of those blocks would be black anyway.

Good luck.

You shouldn't have to really "open up" it up. There should be a sticker inside the battery compartment with the model #, s/n, and block.

FWIW, Lectro Block 30 falls within 'the dreaded 700 MHz band'.. 698 to 806 MHz.. and is not legally usable in the USA.

I broke down while snowed in and opened it up. Lectro service were encouraging about opening it up. Really I just slid it out enough to see it was block 25 (after unscrewing some tiny screws). I think the whips that came with it were off of an old 187. When I slid it back together it fired right up as I expected (I didn't touch anything inside). Gotta love lectro heartiness.
And no run and gun the battery compartments didn't have any markings inside. Thanks to all, your responses were much appreciated.

"I think the whips that came with it were off of an old 187"
The (VHF) 185/187 whips are about 12" long and would significantly compromise RF performance on a UHF system.

I should have figured out earlier that something wasn't right with the whips. The ebay seller was selling many 187, 195 and 200 series lectro when i bought my 210ds and i assume they just threw them in with the wrong rx's. They sold dirt cheap partly because the blocks were unknown to them. I'll be ordering the right whips from one of the usual suspects soon. Thanks for your help Rick R.

Make sure to get antennas for your frequency block.. they're different. The 210D is nice, I wish I still had mine, but I traded them in for 211s some years ago.
