Opening EDL's

I'd like to ask a question if I may regarding EDL's, which is a follow-on from a previous post. Just what is the correct way to import an EDL into Premere Pro? I've checked the manuals, help-files, forums and Internet and there's really no clear 'how to'. Yes, I know it's supposed to be easy, but when I do it just comes out jumbled on the timeline. And is there any easy way to reconnect the media to the EDL without having to go at it one file at a time?:badputer:

What do you mean by jumbled on the timeline?

I haven't found a way for EDLs to include the proper links to the files, I've had to link file by file. One annoying thing is that you can't seem to relink image sequences. When you import for the first time, you've got the option to check "numbered stills" to import an image sequence; but I don't know how to do this when re-linking footage...

I've had success with the EDL automatically linking to the media. Where I seem to have difficulty is with it referencing the timecode within the clip, so it displays the proper segment on the timeline. Every time I try to do something with an EDL, all the clips on the timeline start at the beginning of the media file. My in and out points seem not to matter.

Jumbled

Perhaps jumbled isn't a good description. There are major gaps all over the place and none of the files are linked. I really don't fancy linking each and every clip - hundreds - one at a time. I was just hoping there would be an easier way.:)

I've already asked the editor if he kept his tracks simple - no more than one or two audio and video tracks for the EDL to work properly. He says yes, but I have a sneaking suspicion they were all over the place. Can this cause gaps in the imported EDL and if so, would an AAF work better for a more complicated edit with more tracks? Or is it a simple case of creating more tracks in your timeline before you import the EDL? I've got just about every instruction book going on Premiere Pro and they never detail EDL's beyond a cursory paragraph telling you what they are.

Yes, having more than a few tracks will definitely create gaps in the EDL, if they exported it with the default settings, which only export data for a few tracks. AAF would produce better results, I think, but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
