Opening credits help...

I am working on a short with a couple friends of mine and were almost all finished with just a little post-production to go.

Anyway, the idea came up to have the words come up letter by letter on the screen as if someone was writing them down as the viewer is watching. Is this doable in AE and if not, what should we do???? Other programs, any thoughts at all??

We're editing on premier pro FYI.

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

In AE you can animate a mask on your text layer...set the mask shape keyframes to reveal the letters one at a time. I'm sure some of the more experienced users might have a better way to do it..

AE 2.0 has animation presets...not sure what version you're using.

I have done some writing effect in my intro at: www.smart.atw.hu
I have written the sentences on a paper, and scanned it. I used the animated brush tool to create the writing effect. I ad to animate it backwords

I like to use trapcode 3d stroke for "write on" effects like these, but I've never tried it with whole words, etc. Depending on how much of your credits you want like this, it sounds like a lot of work.

Look into vector paint. You can use it to mask on a text layer. Works great and is pretty easy to do.

You do not need any after market plug ins. You can do the write on effect with what ships in AE standard/Pro. (6.5 and 7, not sure on earlier versions.)
