maybe i´m late here, but i saw Open Water and liked specially because it was shot with a dv camera , but what was that camera?
thanks in advance for your answer.

Re: open water

It was shot on PD150s.

However, not shot very well... and the audio is atrocious!

Re: open water

I really liked it, I bought the DVD yesterday. I was so into the story that I really didn't notice or care about the technical shortcomings. I admire anyone that can take a DV camcorder and make an entertaining feature film.

Re: open water

TC It was a NTSC Sony PD150 for under water shots and a sony vx2000 for above water shots and the pd150 was used in the opening on land and in the boat scenes. :)

Re: open water

...Someone told me it was the XL1.. Oh well, they got their movie on the big screen and I haven't. Props to them.

Re: open water

WHAT!! It was shot on the VX 2000??? How does a movie like that get mass distribution? Thats quite a feat isn't it? Wow, for some reason that really blows my mind. I haven't seen it yet, but my dad bought it and I'm going to go watch it right now...

Re: open water

Yeah the film played well at sundance, husband and wife filmmakers footed the bill of $500,000 then sold it for distribution. It made over 50 million world wide. DVD should do at least that much. I saw it in a theatre at a huge multiplex and the image looked to super soft, probably cause it was on a 100' screen, cause I saw "Supersize Me" at a smaller theatre, it was shot with the pd150 aswell, and the image was crisp and clean looking ? I liked the film and look forward to seeing a dvd copy, the films 80 mins long which just seems to work for indie films.

Re: open water

I watched it. Props on the success, but I didn't care for it. Could have been way better. And the director really really enjoyed the shakey cam look. It was just too much shakey cam work.
