I just purchased the DVD release of Open Water and it has several chapters On the production, the film makers and tips for indies from some of the key players at Lionsgate Films who did the Open Water distribution.

The film was shot and produced by a husband and wife team over 2 1/2 years on a budget 0f $120,000. They kept their day jobs to pay for the film and shot on weekends and vacations in the Bahamas. The male and female leads hung in for that time and the bonus for all was the great recognition they received for such determination and a very powerful production.

The film was shot with Sony PD 150's and VX-2000 and edited of FCP by the DP/Producer.

The DVD is worth the price for just the value of the production overview and indie tips. I am not sure you want to buy it wait 1.2 hours to watch people eaten by sharks:crybaby: . It left me happy to be sitting in my living room and not thinking about running out to take scuba lessons.

I bought the DVD at Wal-Mart for $9.95

Sorry to drag up old thread.... I watched this last night. First comment about it was not from me but my wife asking why is the sound so up and down... now she would usually never say a thing. SOme of the shots pre dive seemed pointless... some of the acting on the boat (especially the guy who wanted to dive alone) was atrocious. THat said.. When the suspense started to finally kick in on the water I thought they did a great job with sound, editing well it worked from there on. THe last 30 minutes was very good.

I agree.

After watching the extras, I had a whole different respect for the film. I think I tend to let indie films made on low-budgets get away with more error just because of the hard core passion behind them. The extras were great.
