Only God Forgives - from the Director of Drive

I'm still torn on whether to see this at the cinemas or not. Bronson blew me away, and I thought Drive was tremendous and particularly unique. Pusher was well made, but not really my cup of tea, and Valhalla Rising was fascinating at first before descending into utter tediousness after they set sail.

Movie tickets cost $19 a pop down here, so sadly I find myself having to think long and hard about what I actually want to see.

To me it's almost identical to Valhalla Rising except that it's tedious right from the very start while Valhalla was an interesting movie for about the first 25 minutes.

I highly recommend waiting until it's available for cheap. Or better yet, just skipping it.

I thought Valhalla Rising was totally boring and though Drive was one of the most visually spectacular films I've seen in a very long time, the movie itself felt so stiff. Only God Forgives looks stunning visually, but I think it will just try to be too cool for school. Have been meaning to watch Pusher though... Will watch that soon.

Totally agree on all points.

Heh…you said "long and hard."

I saw this over the weekend.

I did like it.... I think.

I liked how minimal it was, but don't feel like the pay off was there at all.

Aesthetically it was absolutely amazing. Tons of great color everywhere, great sets and art. A fantastic looking film.

I didn't connect with the characters either, felt more under cooked than Drive, but it was obviously intentional.

I'm not sure what to take from that really, but I didn't hate it.

I liked how it was dedicated to Alejandro Jodorowsky

That dedication put the rest of the film in a different context for me.

An interesting film at least

It looked great. But I'm a little tired of quiet-sad looking ryan gosling movies. Pines, drive, forgives were too similar to me. Forgives is worth a watch. I like gratuitous violence and this has that for sure.

The only movie I've ever walked out of was Tomb Raider
Not much movie that I've done it too, but I've watched it (Only God Forgives) and I kind of enjoyed it.
More style than story, but still. Only for the cinematography, it should be seen at least once. It's visually amazing.

The colors and lighting in the movie are insane! So vivid, so many cool interesting shots.

Kristin Scott Thomas gave a pretty damn good performance.

The movie definitely wasn't a home run, but it wasn't a strike out for me either..

Too good looking and interesting to disregard

1) It was visually quite well mastered. The cinematography was something to study about for sure.
2) It may lacks in other department like story, but technically, this movie is very well done. With a better story, it would have been more popular in theaters.

To me every scene was made to look stunning which came off to me as way overcooked. I felt I may has well viewed this as a picture book.
