Online Videos - How much ad revenue?

thanks for the link, adkimery; very relevant.

that article led me to this one: Jibjab Co-founders: Advertising Doesn’t Work

[Gregg Spiridellis] admits that advertising might work great as part of a larger strategy if you already have your production costs covered, adding: “If someone is saying: I want to do webisodes, I want to produce a series of two-minute comedy shorts and I want to make a lot of money with advertising, I’d say: ‘You’re probably not, but good luck.’”

we might actually be getting somewhere now.

so according to his experience, for ad-dependent content, the focus needs to be on a "larger strategy" and to "cover production costs".

ignoring production costs for now, what would be a successful "larger strategy"?

i have at least one idea for a (potentially) viable "larger strategy".

i'll post it back here when i'm able to articulate it better.

thanks again.

Here is an article just posted on YouTube posters who make more than $100K/year that are independent (outside of studios and established brands). They are 10 of them. None of them make features - it is all short "episodic" model with updated content on their channel(s).

There is also an interesting breakdown of how they estimate the revenue.

thanks a lot for the link, Michael.

those are very large numbers.

most productions on that list seem to be of a certain type (catering to a certain viewer).

So basically the porn industry model: episodic dirt cheap content, except published through a single monopolistic source and almost singularly reliant on popular culture.
