one trillion frames per second

[lexicon]

MIT Media Lab researchers have created a new imaging system that can acquire visual data at a rate of one trillion frames per second. That's fast enough to produce a slow-motion video of light traveling through objects.

[arroway]

Saw this in today's New York Times. Absolutely fascinating.

[Jordan Scott Price]

Yea, but does it do 4:2:2?

[Denis Haineault]

This better work with CF cards.

[JackBayer]

@Jordan Scott Price and Denis Heineault: LOL!

[Jadotch]

Look at the form factor, It looks like it weighs a ton. It does not even use batteries, you have to plug it in! The flip cam is better than this.

[DeterminedFilmmaker]

That's amazing! God, storage killer!

[youngindiefilms]

I guess there is now a new job description, besides focus puller we will have a mirror turner

[David G. Smith]

So can I build one of those titanium sapphire laser light sources using work lights from Home Depot?

[manakiin]

Only 8bit out...

[Jarrett P. Morgan]

absolutely incredible.

[Grug]

Only 8bit out...

When are these camera companies going to stop crippling their products and give us what we ask for?!

[Tim Joy]

For $250 grand you think you would get at least 2 trillion FPS... highway robbery I tell ya

[PaPa]

... But does it do 24fps? Looks like some pretty bad banding to me, really travels across the image..

[Searcher]

Anything less than 4 Trillion FPS in 2011 is a joke. Thanks but no thanks.

[Sumfun]

No audio?

[BobbyMurcerFan]

Seriously, not even stereo mini.

[Jarek Zabczynski]

It makes a clicking sound when I move it around. I think its broken.

[Ryan Patrick O'Hara]

At a trillion frames per second, a 90 minute feature film could be shot in roughly 1/7716049th of a second. Alright.

[Jordan Scott Price]

All joking aside...

...this is wildly impressive.

Just imagine what can be done with that kind of imaging technology. Science is awesome.
