One time install?

Hi, I ran into a little question today that has me worried. I was talking with my dad about how my brother and I plan to work in a FCP and Shake environment versus going with AVID or some other software like Edius or Premiere. He asked me how many Macs we'd get and he, out of the darkest blue, asked if we needed copies for all of our machines we plan to buy.

I couldn't give him an answer because I simply didn't know. Are FCP and Shake like Windows XP in that they can only be installed on one computer? I know you can't use the same programs over a network but couldn't you install it on a seperate Mac and do it that way? Same questions for Shake.

I know AVID can be installed on as many computers as you want, that's in the advertising, but is even that 100% true?

I don't want to go through the hassle of switching to FCP to get backstabbed and have to buy AVID right off the bat, ya know? Shake is a must for us, but that's a seperate program that mostl likely will end up on one machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated while we've still got time and all.:)

You can install FCP on more than one computer. I have it on my desktop and on my laptop. But I can only have it open on 1 computer on a network (Airport, in my case) at a time. If you want to run it on more than one computer at a time, you've got to take it off the network (turn off Airport, in my case.)

While Avid lets you install the program on more than one computer, you can only run it on one at a time because it requires a USB dongle to use it.
