one person behind camera and on camera

i'm shooting an auto-biographical documentary for my tv station and am trying to figure out the best way to shoot it. i am the crew and the "talent."

i want to spend the most time capturing the story and not worrying so much about camera technique, tripod set up etc.

the best idea i can come up with is some sort of set up where i have the camera somehow "strapped" in front of me so i can shoot and be on camera simultaneously.

anyone used this technique with the dvx before?

any tips, suggestions, or other ideas on how to go about this?

That's a pretty wild concept. I think a "Lipstick Cam" or helmet cam would be a good option for you. They're much lighter, so you should be able to act more naturally.

I have shot as a one man band while playing host for many years. I hand-hold it most of the time. I began doing this in '84 so it comes pretty natural now.
