"One of more unique looking documentaries"

Guys, just wanted to share that my doc film got an award for Best Cinematography at Salem Film Fest.

Stephen Pizzello - the Editor-in-Chief of American Cinematographer called it "one of the more unique documentaries I’ve seen — and a work of art in itself."

You can see the trailer here:

I'll be posting an article with some home-made visual tricks later on.

Congrats! This doc looks great visually, and the subject matter is intriguing. How long was your production process from pre to post?

Simply stunning. On many levels.

I would not want to get into any technical discussions because I feel this work transcends that, but I was curious if you and you team were shooting RAW or H.264 on the 5d's.

Thank you for posting this Patryk.

Thank you for posting this Patryk.

This was all h264 on 7d.
When you projecting from DCP somehow the image ends up looking crispier and more "delicious."

I remember in 20o7 having a film shot on DVX100 projected (from 35mm print upres). Even DVX100 properly projected looks fantastic.

Looks great Patryk, and really interesting. Let us know if/when you get it up on VOD (or in my case, have screenings down in Australia).

You know what i have discovered about film festivals.... Nobody watches your film until someone tells them to. And unfortunately Australia is too far for me to say, i know so and so at such and such film festival. So the likelihood of this thing getting seen in your parts of the world is pretty slim.

So the editor of Amer Cinematographer asked me to write a piece about the film. What would be the most interesting aspect of it for fellow DPs? Would it be technical way to achieve the images or rather go into philosophy of what makes the images carry their message? (or some other idea that DPs would find useful)

BOTH!

HOW you created some of those beautiful and artful shots, and then your thoughts on WHY you felt they should look that way.

But first, a segment about how you formed your ideas as a DP about what kinds of imagery should be used to tell these stories.

I'll get a subscription just to read it.

Great, that actually helps a lot!
