One 24" or two 19"?

Hi gang,

My monitor is piece of decomposing garbage and I'm looking into buying a new one. All the material I edit is HDV/HD. I'd like to know if it's better to have one 24" monitor or two 19"? What should I look for? Any tips about what I "absolutely" need to properly edit HDV/HD?

cheers

Two are always better than one. Well, my friend with the 30" Apple monitor might be able to make an argument.

I guess it all depends on space with the workspace that you have. Its funny cause I have the best of both worlds,at work I work on 2 19in Viewsonics and at home I have one 24in Dell. I sometimes get annoyed with the split at work but the reason I went with a 24 at home was because I have a small desk space and later can add another sweet 24 when the time comes. Your choice really.

I've been looking into the 19"s and it apears that they only go 1280 X 1024 or 1400 x 900...and HDV is 1440 X 1080...where is that leave me? My idea here is to have one monitor exlusively to view the footage and the other one I would leave with just the editing commands (timeline, effects, project setting, etc).

IMHO 24" is the way to go. Aren't most 19" monitors 4X3? I'm also assuming the 19's are LCD and not CRT...

I have the Dell 24" [1920x1200] with the Qaudra FX540 video card feeding a 42" plamsa and work almost exclusively in HD and love it. If you want to work in HD with dual 19" monitors and an HD component out to an HD monitor then you should make sure your graphics card can support that setup.

if it was me i'd go with the 24" & add another 24" later when i get more cash, i know thats what i would do when i get the Mac Pro as wont be able to afford two dell 24" at once.

Thanks for all the input, fellas. I know the idea would acualy be a 50" ;-) But after researching prices and stuff I think I might just go with two 19"s...it is still way cheaper then a 24"
