i think i had the same kind of reaction myself. the beg was just weird and the camera is shaky and its too dark and the lead is some kind of maniac and what the hell is this about, but then he starts to sing and holy cow, wait, he's good, real good, and he isnt a maniac, he's really living, feeling! damn! this movie is good! real good!
Exactly. It has everything going against it in the first few seconds. You can't even avoid some laughs...untill the "goozebumps" and all that "heart" starts to come out. From then on, everything starts to make sense and work together wonderfuly...Organicaly.
I agree with your words, Battuta. I believe that anyone should AVOID listening to the soundtrack or getting more in depth infromation about the movie BEFORE actually seeing it.
But its a movie that trully deserves all this praise... Its a movie that every Independent Filmmaker/artist/musician should see. If not for the movie, for how inspiring the whole package is.
Watching this movie is like watching a great, to be discovered, "band". I say "band" because the beauty of this movie is how all the unique artistic elements work so organicaly well together . Its a perfect blend of all those raw/crude talents of each element of this "band"- each artist with its personal, intimate and full of heart contribution to the piece, may it be the filmmaker with his shooting style and script, the actors and musicians with their heart and soul in both acting and songwritting/singing, and the living heart of the city of Dublin. Its real people you see there, not the usual "beautyful people" of the movies.
Its a movie that happened "once", and that will not be repeated. Its just a unique "cinema" moment.
Like a live concert of an undiscovered great band, you go in, skeptical. The guys look raw, average, have nothing going for them at first glance, and as they start the first musical notes, your cynical heart starts to form possible bashing lines based on the first melodic notes and the band's clumsiness... Then, suddenly, the talent starts coming out, attacking you with all its passion and heart continuously, and you just cannot believe it... As you get more and more involved with the experience, you just throw away your cynicism. In those 2 hours of the concert, you end up joinning that band in their unique, musical journey. This basically is the "once" experience. At least for me!
