Apple to quadruple software development spend in India, would this effect development of FCPX ? and new mac pros on the Horizon

I can imagine that there would be some sort of changes coming to FCPX since Apple have finally realized the ridiculousness of the situation of killing your professional userbase in order to appeal to your Grandma!

I haven't seen any stock issues with the MBPs yet, but there're always new ones coming out. Let's hope this time they have something better than just a new data port.

I'd not hold my breath for new Mac Pros. First, Intel is late in getting new CPUs out (what are in MBPs and iMacs are laptop CPUs, not real server CPUs). The sales of Mac Pros have been declining, and if Apple can sell enough to justify the amount of CPUs necessary to afford it, good bye Mac Pro.

As for FCP X, Apple is in deed catering to a segment of the professional market. In fact, I argue there is no such thing as professional any longer, just as there are no industry standards any more. Thunderbolt is a very powerful new interface, and it's catching on.

I remember when people said Apple would die for sure because they dropped the floppy drive totally. Every one in the industry hailed it as Apple's death blow...

I couldn't agree more. But this is not a new thing.

People who specialize in events & industrials have long been, let's say, "unknowledgeable" about standards.

The rise of cable TV reduced the economic & cultural influence of traditional "over the air" TV, and many cable networks have lower technical standards. And now the rise of web based video, not YouTube, but real destinations for short form video programming like comedy series, soaps, cooking shows, etc, is creating a new market that's reducing the influence of all TV, with even fewer & lower standards. And it's coming soon to a smart phone near you!

I too have been wondering the fate of the mac pro, i would hate to see them go, but apple could loose money on everyone they sell and still be fine. or maybe build to order. or maybe redesign them to be not so dang expensive IE, add another CPU a year later when price goes down. I can dream right?

Oh man, you really have no idea who you're talking about! LOL! You really need to get out of your mom's basement and meet some of the top end event and corporate videographers out here today. Their technical knowledge would blow your mind.

Not to mention THEY have nothing to do with industry standards. That's up to the camera and device manufacturers, and those guys have gone helter-skelter for YEARS ignoring industry standards. Every new camera has a new codec! Geez, get with it! "Standards" no longer exist because of the corporations who don't give a damn about them, period!

And as for no MP update for so long, there's been no significant "server" class CPU upgrade in all that time, period.

I've been keeping my ears open for a new MacPro release sometime now. I've been on a G5 running Tiger/FCP6 for years now, After years of use I'm just now feeling its on its last leg (not so much performance/hardware issues but because of software compatibility)
I bought an I7 iMac recently and while I'm extremely happy with it, I find it more of an interim computer until the new MP's come out. I'd like a little more "umph" that I feel a Mac Pro will provide. For me and for my work I didn't find it made financal sense to purchase the latest available (but aging) MacPro considering the power the iMacs now provide so I'm hoping new MP's are right around the corner.

My point is that Apple towers last a loooong time (at least for most people I'd think). I bought my G5 used and got 7 strong years out of it (still running, again just not compatible w/ alot of new software) so do we really need MacPro updates more than every 2 to 3 years?

I have to agree with that, a lot of innovation is being carried out by the smaller outfits, the majority (not all) of the big broadcast networks are dinosaurs clinging to outdated workflows unable to maneuver due to the red tape and administrative nightmare that trying to innovate entails.
