That Indian girl's film was terrrrrriiiiiiblllllle. I felt so sorry for her as it was being shown. So he's gay and he's Indian and you succeed in life by being yourself. HOLY CRAP I JUST LEARNED SO MUCH! And what's with people saying her film had the most visual style??? Outside of the one shot where we see his legs walking past an underground parking lot, every single shot was average.

My favorite of the five was the first one. The string stuff in the beginning was badly choreographed, but everything else was good. The fish coming out in the end was genius. Bay's comments were completely off-base. And for the record, his advice is hack advice. If you ever need to critique someone and don't know what to say, you say, "you could've cut it down a little more". Cause no one can argue against you and it SOUNDS like you know what you're talking about. Technically, as long as it's over one second, you can give that advice and *theoretically* be right.

Dough-Boy was pretty good (even though I hate musicals). Meet The Parents 3 wasn't nearly as bad as they made it out to be (**** establishing shots. Who the hell cares. This isn't Legends of The Fall). And that date thing was unoriginal, uninspired, and stupid. Man was that bad.

And if those filmmakers had half a brain, they'd apply the opposite of any advice Michael Bay gave them. Michael Bay is a terrible filmmaker. All he knows how to do is frame a shot and blow things up. Any advice OUTSIDE of those two things - let it go right through one ear and out the other. (I'm not surprised, incidentally, that he liked the Indian Girl's the best - that clearly means hers was the worst).

This show won't be on long because, as has been stated, it's a complete mess. America voting for directors was a mess idea to begin with. There's only one person in the world who could've got this show on the air, and he just happened to be the one with the idea. And for those that don't know, Spielberg is a big American Idol buff, which is why he wanted to do this show so much.

I completely agree with you. Imagine hearing Michael Bay telling you YOUR film needed more style. Thats like a fat kid telling you to lose weight. When I first saw Brett Ratner im thinking "I cant think of a worse choice of judge". Then we get DJ Caruso who just committed the most serious act of cinematic blasphemy we've seen in some time. And now the granddaddy of gimmickry himself, Michael Bay rears his ugly head to tell others how to direct a film. All we learned from him is how to shamelessly plug your new movie.

One thing I do wonder though is that those films actually look pretty good on screen. I watch the HD version of the show and the shorts actually held up really well blown up. Very film like with little of that "video" look. Comment what you will about the content, but in term of the visual, it's pretty adequate.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the more recent ones are shot with panavision or other high end cameras. (I try to keep a keen eye during the recaps seeing as thats as much "behind the scenes" as they'll give. I could be wrong)

The show is a disaster, that is for sure but who do some of you think you are? So you dont like Michael Bay, fair enough but stop slamming him at every turn and lay off the indian girl. Some of you dont get it but saying stuff like her filmed sucked butt or you felt sorry they showed it is immature and silly.

personally, when it first started, I enjoyed it. But then some of the shorts were boring and a few were really good. There's only one person I'm really pulling for but I can't even remember his name! oops. Anyways, wow there's only one judge I like and Fisher and that old guy can't seem to find words to say when they dislike a film. They just stutter and go on and on. And i've even heard of Bay until Transformers was made....

I think they printed there shorts to film, thats why they looked really good.

My friends roommate works on the show, all he does is babysit the people on the show. I guess they can't go do certin things, but he was saying that they are just sitting around, editting random stuff, sorta waiting for it to be cancelled... bad news.

If the show does get cancelled I think a channel like Bravo can pick this up and do it better, i.e. minus the audience and live votes and make it more like Top Chef.

why can't i say the Indian girl's short sucked? It did. If you want, I'll put forth a number of reasons why I think it sucked. I just didn't feel like people cared enough to hear them.

as for michael bay, I know that it's en vogue to bash him. But he really is a terrible filmmaker. his movies have gotten increasingly worse (this is because in the beginning, when he had no power, he had to adhere to people higher on the totem pole - since he's become "successful", he makes all his decisions on his own now. I think the results speak for themselves). If I were doing a big-budget wizz-bang commercial, I would listen to Michael Bay. If I were doing anything that even resembled a film, I would stay as far away from him as possible.

CG, the other film makers picked it as the best, as did Michael Bay. I thought so as well. I guess we are all idiots. IMHO people, are far too harsh sometimes. I am certainly guilty but being a film maker isnt just about talent alone, it is like any other art form, it takes a lot to make money at it, way more than just talent. Michael Bay has turned down better things than anyone posting in these forums would kill to even get a stab at...

Why bash Michael Bay at all? His films are shallow and illogical but damn it, they're entertaining! He wouldn't have had consecutive blockbuster hits if they weren't. I know that I'll be lining up to see Transformer when it comes out, and I suspect quite a few people on this forum will do the same.

Michael Bay, just like every other hack who ever made it in the big leagues, was in the right place at the right time. He was an accredited commercial director at a time when it was fashionable to allow commercial directors to try and direct feature films. He made Bad Boys which was allllllllllllllllllllllllllll Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. It was a hit. He gets credit and is allowed a pass into the big show. His movies are the epitome of what sells in this business (i.e. anything that appeals to 14 year old boys). Now if that's your idea of a "good" filmmaker, then that's fine. But don't try and tell me that Michael Bay has the right to judge any sort of serious work. The guy literally doesn't talk to his lead actors. Ever. That's on record. A director that doesn't direct.

The fact that Michael Bay is considered a top notch director that people try and attach to their project is exactly what's wrong with the movie industry today. Go back and read Bruce Willis' comments about Michael Bay from a couple weeks ago to find out what real industry people think of him.

Jesus, give Michael Bay a break. So you don't like his films - that's fine, but it's not like he's taking jobs that would've gone your way is it?

Credit where credit's due, the man blows stuff up really well and a lot of people (occassionally myself included) like to watch stuff blow up. Yes a lot of his films are bad, but he's also made some pretty good ones: Bad Boys, The Rock, and Transformers (from the look of things).

Get off the Bay-Bashing Bandwagon...

love him or hate him, Bay is waaaay more succesfull than anyone on this forum. So what if he makes blockbusters, I think that he is fine with that and I am sure that most people on here would love to have the success that he has. It sure beats starving for food and wondering how the heck you are going to pay off your equipment. As far as judging, at least he didn't do the ass-kissing that Carrie and Gary did.

i love michael bays quote forom way back.
"I make movies so I can buy Farrari's"

sounds right but im starting to hope he like storys in movies lol.... please transformers dont suck.

I dont think michael bay is a hack at all. My opinion of him is changing by the minute. Just watched The island again. im starting to think hes a savant. How else can you make such a beautiful movie, out of nothing....... its kinda brilliant if you think about it.....
