"On The Lot" tonight

Dude with the big hair was being a bully... at least from the way it was edited.

Our local Fox news station is doing a report on local filmmakers tonight. How many others' local Fox stations are doing the same?

Of course...

It would be a pretty boring show (to the majority non-filmmakers) if everyone got along and had a great time doing it. ;)

Yes our Fox is also doing that. There were interviews with people in suits saying Austin is a huge film place. At the end it said "Find out how to be an Austin extra!" and there was a big golden star as if being an Austin extra was the same as being an A-list celeb.

we may be the only group of people to get psyched by the camera they're using.

go dvx. it's you're birthday.

Damn. I knew it. Been telling my wife all week this show will make a complete mockery of indie filmmakers. They want clashing personalities and baffooons, thats what sells. If they had serious artists on there it would only be interesting to us...

But I'm only basing that off your comments above, guess I need to watch this tonight. Grr.

Well Mark Burnett (aka Mr. Reality TV) is producing, so I saw this push towards conflict coming. I am alittle suprised that Carrie Fisher is a judge, since she is not really relevant these days, plus is not a director. But to me, that first episode was not entertaining at all, just painful.

"You don't have to be a filmmaker to make movies" was the most confounding statement of the episode I saw. Then two groups are shown to get into a pissing contest over a filthy LA trainyard location.

BTW, Carrie Fisher is one of Hollywood's go-to script doctors. She isn't there because she was a princess thirty years ago.

Well at least she isn't pulling a Paula Abdul and saying how everyone is so pretty and everyone is a winner.

just got through watching it, and yes, it was getting ugly at the end. I had no doubt that all they would do is create a show for the sake of showing-the pitching stuff was nerve wracking. I think this is a worthwhile show for me at least- glad American Idol is over- and something to hold me over till Heroes season 2.

I think filmmaking tends to bring out the best and worst in people so it's not surprising this is coming out. Combine that with a 24 hour period for completing projects and it's a free for all.

if i was on this show i'd be ordering people around also. not directorial stuff, but things like, "go fetch me a beer". i'd also taunt the other filmmakers as much as possible to get "in their heads".

Hahaha. :)

Some of those pitches were not good to say the best.

I did however enjoy the one with the twist bad-guy-get-hit-with-a-random-ninja-star ending.
:sarcastic smiley face:

I cringed at this episode too...I was like..dammmnn definitely not the way to start off a relationship with people by making them jump bars, wait outside, etc.

omg...that first pitch...I felt his pain it was sooo bad. And the guy with the belt..wtf is that? hahahaaha

..and why isn't Spielberg a judge?

I was so happy they were using DVX's on their films....I was sitting on the couch and was like...YO MOM CHECK OUT THAT CAMERA...ITS LIKE MINE!! and then shes like..ohh interesting...and she walks away.

I feel like a bit of a loser for being super happy that the DVX was shown. haha

Yeah, I hope this show is more about the art than the petty arguing that I am seeing at the moment.
Ha ha ha, were you fooled. Art? This is about making it in Hollywood, when was the last time Hwood was about art?

I'm cringing too. It's just annoying and I have trouble believing these are the 50 best undiscovered filmmakers. The show is shedding a bad light on filmmaking. It seems they chose personalities over good films.
Most indie filmmakers are loners putting together their own art, but in professional filmmaking you will be called to work together with people so this is seeing how well they can do that and it seems that some of them can't. It's easy for me to work with people but if it's my project I'm a bit more aggressive and things have to be done my way. I knew this is the angle they were going to take. Bickering sales and bickering filmmakers will too. That's called drama.
