On Location - Liquid 7.2 problem

Hi,

I have a problem with On Location and Liquid.
I hooked up the HVX200 with firewire to the computer. With the record button I start recording on P2 card and on the hard disc with on Location.

I only recorded two short 10 second test clips, using DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO HD 1080i 50i.
On Location saves the files in the AVI format.
There is no problem playing the files back in On location.

I imported the OL files into Liquid 7.2 and put it on the timeline. Nothing more.
When playing back, the frame rate drops and the clips stops after a few seconds. If I clip on the clip again, it plays again for a few seconds but then irt will stop again..
Also, the sound is most of the time not there and it is cracking like 5 times a second.

If I import the same clips, that I have recorded simultaneously on the P2 card with X receive from the P2 card, everything is fine.
DVCPRO50 keeps the frame rate and the sound is perfect.
In HD 1080i 50i the frame rate drops, but the clip continues to play and the sound is there as well.

First, the time line was set to DV, but then I individualized the time line so a DVCPRO509 setting for those and a 1080 setting for the HD clip. Nothing changed.

The hard disc has still 325 GB free space and is formatted with NTFS.

This is, what the computer looks like:CPU: Intel Q6600
Mainboard: Asus P5WDH Deluxe
Ram: 4 GB
Grafic card: ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512 MB Ram

Anybody an idea, what I have to do to make it work properly?

I'd start by downloading a small codec utility called GSpot. This will show you what codec is being used to decompress and play back the AVI files on your system. Adobe does include a Video for Windows decompressor to decode the files, but I'm guessing another codec is being used instead.

I have done that already,

I have uploaded the pictures from Gspot of the PVCPRO50 HVX200 MXF file, the PVCPRO50 On Location file, the 1080i On Location file and th4e DVCPRO50 Liquid video analysis.
Is that of any help?

Hi there, both of our suites in addition to running Premeire run liquid, a forword word of warning it SUX when dealing with this stuff but it does work for DVCPRO50
not 1080 in my experenice.

The reason is that Liquid doesn't share its codecs with the rest of a pc system ie WFW codecs. The way we got it too work was setting up at timeline using the DVCPRO50 presets and yes the cracking sound was had to split and import independantly. there is the option of recompressing the files with Virual Dub or AE but its pretty rough the p2 import method is best a lot cleaner. But ive never got 1080 from onlocation into Liquid i mean .. I have but never editable :(

Let me know how you go, Im so sick of Liquid's performance its like a rollercoaster of fun you never know what it will do next

Hi,

that really sucks. Then I rather use the P2 files. I thought I could go around this.

I recently bought On Location, which came along with Premiere Pro CS3, wich supports the P2 in the 3.1 version as you surely know.
So do both systems run without problems parallel on your computer?
Because I have heard, you can also do life capturing with Premiere.
I have not installed it. Years ago, I was working with Premiere 6.0 and 6.5, but then changed to Liquid 7, then 7.2.

So I know quite well how Liquid works, but CS3 not yet. Is it worth it? Also for DVCPRO50?

Yes both run happy is larry on the same machine there are some project we use that liquid for and some the Adobe Suite.

Just like you i started working in Prem 6 then 6.5 7 1.5 and then liquid, I orignally got liquid because of the opentimeline but it isn't massisve dissipointment (much better to confirm your assets before add them to your timeline.

From my expenerice you can not ingest live DVCPRO50 / HD using prem thats what Onlocation is for. ( Could be wrong here )

I like liquid beause you can cut very fast in it, the multicam is also quick, the Colour Correction is quick and background rendering is pretty handy. Alos auto save. The audio workflow is pretty dam cool.

But I am weening our team off it beacause its buggy the CC don't always work, It has major intermittant Alpha Channel issues. and has a habit of really letting me down at the eleventh hour.

Prem CS3 is worth it The MXF support is just about the best there is, the audio workflow has been greatly improved (see scoure channel mapping) the Prem to AE dynamic link is UNREAL and makes VFX a dream. The multicam is far more useful than Liquids but not as fast to work.

The 3.1 Update handles DVCPRO50 and HD like a dream the you combine DV50 and AE and you have a green screen key that makes your mouth drool.

My Major problem with Prem is no OMF support, doing a final audio post right now is a BIG problem, you can do it fine inside the NLE but it would be great to do it in protools or Cubase I would also like to see the audio on the timeline a little more open.

Give it a whirl The biggest thing i noiced going back was that you cant work a the same editing pace stright away, you have to really learn the shortcut keys, overally Prem of FCP FEEL better over all to cut on
