on camera..

hi all
tried with this question in another forum with no luck.
i'm going to have to shoot with no soundman, no boom, therefore i'm planning to mount a sanken cs3e on camera. now, i know that this i far from being a good solution but it is the only one i have and anyway i'm going to be always quite close to the talking people.
what i'm wondering is which could be the best mic to use (always camera mounted) for channel 2. a good omni? a well suspended lav? a figure 8? i just don't want (and probably can't with a canon xh a1) use the onboard mic..
thanx

with that camera, your choice is either external mic or cam mic, but not both at once. fun canon feature will not allow one track cam mic and one external. yay! for second mic, really depends on what you are shooting and what you want to hear/not hear

thanks

oleg: are you talking about the second mic? i mean, cs3e and a cardioid or a cardioid instead of the cs3e? which cardioid?
i know nothing about ms recording, why do you think that an on camera ms setup wouldn't work?

as a second mic to take wider sound then the shotgun , not instead
the stereo image works when the camera doesnt move so really dont bother your self with that ,
which cardioid - one that you can afford - better something that doesnt weight allot - you can use audix micro for that ,

http://www.audixusa.com/products.html

dont weight allot and could be placed over the shotgun

my money goes with a wireless system of some kind in addition to the sanken... either a lav on your main subject, preferably quite an open one so you can get spill from people they interact with. ideally a wireless handheld - then you're golden. but not many shows want a wireless handheld!

mmh sorry again oleg which audix cardioid are you thinking about?
timapter: my job is documentary so no hand held, but for sure a cos 11 or a b6 will be in my kit.
ciao
