On-camera monitor with the best peaking

Hi - I am looking for a monitor with the best focus peaking (from your experience.) Any price.

However, I would like (if possible):

- Multiple peaking assistance
- Easy Access
- Colored peaking
- Anything else that really helps with focus

I know many times it depends on the contrast of the scene for peaking to be effective, but some monitors are better than others. On a side note, are there any monitors out there with a cross hair/line/indicator that moves across the scene as you focus?

And finally, are there any specific monitor features that affect focus peaking such as contrast ratio, brightness, PPI? I'm assuming a higher resolution helps.

If anyone answers, thank you for your help. I appreciate it!

Love my smallHD DP7Pro OLED. I have a "smart-key" set-up to switch to B&W with red peaking when I activate it. It's touch screen, so I just touch the area where I have it programmed to and the On-Screen "smart-keys" pop up and it activates. Touch it again and back to a normal picture. You can adjust the level of peaking, the color and if the main image is color or B&W. It also has 'normal' peaking in addition to the 'focus-in-red/focus-in-color' above. Plus a ton of the other useful and cool tools and features. I've said it countless times, it's my favorite monitor, hands down.

Thank you. The DP7Pro OLED looks amazing and the touchscreen is probably super convenient, but I ended up ordering the AC7...was going back and forth between the LCD and OLED, but just went for the simpler version.

Hey Rob. My main concerns were picture quality and convenience. OLED just eats LCD's lunch when it comes to true black levels and color(the monitor actually looks "too good", sometimes)(I had Abel calibrate it and my Sony 17" OLED). So for me, the HB version was never even on the table for consideration at the time. And it wasn't available, then. I was probably one of the first to take delivery of the DP7Pro OLED's. I think they just finally released the HB version last year sometime. Something else to consider, the OLED is bigger and it's touchscreen. The LCD versions are less than 7" and you have to use physical buttons to access your user button settings instead of just being able to lightly touch/tap the screen to activate them and 'flick' through the pages/screens a la iPhone/iPad.

If you need a monitor with the HB capabilities, it's great that they have it and by all accounts that I've heard, it works as advertised. And if I ever need a monitor that can perform like that, I'm sure I'll get it from them, but the OLED suites my needs and wants better the vast majority of the time.

How is it outside? I was leaning towards the LCD version because of the reflective screen of the OLED version. What do you think?

Outside in the sun or bright light you definitely have to use the sun hood. I guess if there is a drawback or chink in it's Armour, then that's it.

Im very new to video. pro stills wedding photog moving into video as well. now I saw that price tag for the DP7Pro OLED around $2k. thats just crazy for an lcd thats going to be used for weddings.

I have an acquaintance videographer ive worked with and when he shoots on the dance floor, he had a monopod, this rail thingy he has his 5dIII on and a clamp that holds a 7" lcd. so he shoots, picks up the rig, moves to where otehrs are dancing and shoots. I asked him how much the lcd costs and he said get the cheapest 7" 1080p screen that comes up and it will be more than fine for the job. not sure he was trying to steer me away so he wouldnt have competition but saw this one

and seems to have the focus peaking and the shade. now I know that 2 grand lcd is better but how bad is this lcd for having just a bigger screen to see focus better?

how long will a battery like this last to run that screen?

for stills I use nikon 2.8 zooms and primes like the 50/85/105VR and use a D3/D3s so I use good gear and know whats needed to get the job done. but im not asking how good the DP7Pro is, im asking how acceptable/good this one is and if its better than the LCD on the D750/D5300 cameras I plan on adding for work. Ive tried focusing using the lcd screen with the D3s for practice and wow my eyes were working HARD. my focus was accurate but a lot of back and forth of minute adjustments so I could see I was spot on in focus. you know what I mean? I wasnt sure I was, so I had to constantly adjust slightly all the time to get focus right and these were still life objects.

cheers.

When will someone invent a camera/monitor with face/eye-detection peaking?
My problem with all peaking I've used is that it very rarely highlights what I want in focus, which is faces/eyes 9 times outta 10. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong. But a monitor that can detect eyes and show peaking when they're in focus would be brilliant.
